Hi everyone. new guy here who would appreciate some guidance.

Got my sone a 97 XP. Seems there is something draining the battery. Tested fine putting it in. started it up, shut it down, went to start the next day and battery seemed dead. Starts up fine under a boost or if battery comes off charge.

On one occasion, after pulling the key, it continued to try to start but turning over slowly, like a weak battery. Being non-mechanical, I am thinking there is a problem on the steering column with the switch for the machine to try to turn over after pulling the key...sound reasonable?

Anyone else experience some similar issues or have any suggestions for the fix?

Thanks

Do not boost it ever! You will fry the computer.

Typically this is a symptom of a bad battery and a weak battery can bridge the starter solenoid causing it to continue to crank.

I would have the battery load tested before doing anything else.

I have personally seen brand new batteries that are bad especially cheap ones like Wal-Mart NeverStarts.
