I've got a 97 spx with a bad rotary valve seal. I know ill have to split the case but can I replace the seal without buying a manufactured crank? is the seal even a separate part from the crank? I need a little bit of direction before i go off and start spending money. any help?

Do you need the rotary valve SHAFT seal or have you determined that the inner crank seals are the problem? A Rotary valve pressure test would get you the correct seal or sales that are leaking. The procedure is in the service manual and can be done fairly easy. If its the crank seals your in for a crank, if it's the rotary valve SHAFT seal that is an easier fix but still labor intensive. Other guys have been putting inline shut off valves so the oil won't seep in after it sits a while. You just have to remember to open that valve before riding. Cheap and easy fix, just keep an eye n your oil tank.

It's the crank seals. Mine is already to the point where it floods the cylinders within a matter of minutes. I'm just going to replace the crank.
