An Old SP for a New Owner

Greetings, I've purchased what I believe is an Old SP today that is in need of some help. Never having owned or worked on anything that floats I'm debating if it's worth the stress to fix or sell for parts/trailer. I'm told the bearing on the prop is bad and the electrical system is the reason for it not running. I jumped on this b/c I was also told it had a "new" motor. At best it looks clean, better than I can say for the rest of it..

I needed to know if these symptoms or parts for a sled this old are rare or expensive? Requires more experience than say an Auto Tech could figure. And a guessitmate of value.

with have'n the yellow motor, you can get reman ones, from SBT for 500 buks, eith 1yr warranty.

Replace the grey fuel lines with 1/4in fuel line from Autozone, Kragens..etc, and tear carb off, and go thru it, you'll find a internal filter, that i bet, will be clogged up. Along with it being that early of a year, pull the fuel baffle out, and replace the lines inside it, i'd say they're shot-out, if not, dropped inside the tank. Third, pull spark-plug and verify you have spark, if not, pull the ebox out, and at the coil, you'll see a black/red wire, unplug it at the butt-connector, then try to fire it up. If it fires up, you'll need to pull the choke to kill the motor. If this happens, you'll need a new MPEM, ehich, being that year, theres' TONS out there, along with every other part for that ski, AND REAL CHEAP....good luck.:cheers:

Thanks Timmy, Are there better options to purchase replacement parts other than at the dealer? Cheap parts could make this horse ride.

I saw your post. I also bought my 1st. jetski. the seller gave bad info .
engine was seized, i got it broke loose and ran it for a minute or so.
checked compression, had 15 & 100 .
It would need complete overhaul. I pulled engine. Will sell it complete for $100.00
plus shipping. All electronics are good, starter, etc. Yellow engine, 587 1990 model
good luck I'm out of the jetski business--back to rebuilding golf carts.

Need any of it let me know I'm in no. fl. zip 32570 also have hull pump and control cables. [Ed

Are you referring to the zippered part under handle bars? if so its black.
