Hey guys, new to the forum, but been on SeaDoo's for 20+ years.

Anyways, I have a 96 XP that I would like to add an OEM tach to. Where do I get the tach signal wire from. I read on another forum where a guy was saying to wire it to the Yellow/Black wire off the rectifier just like in the wiring diagram for a 95 XP. My 96 XP does not have a yellow and black wire, it has 3 yellow wires coming out of my rectifier.
I read someone else say something about a grey/white wire coming out of my MPEM.

I have no problem hooking up the tach itself, I just need to know which wire is the signal. It has to have signal somewhere to control the rev limiter.

Thanks in advance!

There is no signal wire on the 96 XP MPEM ending in 0510. The GSX/GTX MPEM from 96 (ending in 0897) is the same other then having a tach signal wire.

There was a kit though. You can get the signal from a yellow wire but not directly. There is a little diode thing that looks like black heat shrink with little yellow dots on it that goes in between.

I got it!
I have two tach's on hand, one is a 97 GSX tach and the other is a 95 XP tach.
The GSX tach must already have an integrated resistor as it did not work with an added 18k ohm to the signal wire. When I removed the resistor it worked as expected.
I hooked up the 95 XP tach and it worked with the 18k ohm resistor inline.
**I used 18k as this was closest I had to a 20k according to the 95 XP wiring schematic.

I tapped the signal wire into the Yellow/White wire off the pickup side of the magneto. *The 4 pin harness with the Deutsch connector going to the front of the engine.

Give me a yell if you have any questions. Hard to believe I could not find this info on the inter-webs for a 21 year old machine.

You should download the manual and look at the diagram if your looking to add it there has to be a wire to the mpem for it. Since it didn't have 1 before may be an issue. The manual will show a tach wire if it's there
