I think I found the right place this time, my apologies. I have a 99 challenger that recently had both engines rebuilt. Ran great first 4 times out. Last time out would run fine idleing for a while but when up on a plane for about 300 yards both engines just shut off completely for about 20 minutes. It would still turn over fine but a screw driver in the spark plug wire says there's no spark. 20 mins later starts up and runs like a champ. Seems I could have gotten all the way back without a tow if I hadn't decided to try going fast again. But of course I had to. I'm planning to give it another go and see if it happens again, just wondering if anyone has any ideas. Thank You in advance.

clip the plug wires 1/4in at boots ends, and install new plugs. Also, clean the landyard cap and post, with an eraser.

I took it to the dealer that rebuilt it and the clipped the wires back for me and told me to try running it again. I'm not sure what the landyard end is but I will look through the forum for an answer to that. They are nervous at te shop that the mpem might be going but want to try everything else first. Hey thanks for the quick response.

Question

Would the landyard cap and post effect both engines and all 4 cylinders simultaniously? Thats my biggest concern, there's no coughing and spitting, no running on 1 engine or 1 cylinder for a while. It goes from 3/4 throttle on a plane to both engines OFF, just in a split second. It has to be something electrical that one thing effects both engines. This being my first jet and first sea doo I'm lost. But I do love this boat. Thanks again for your help.

Yup...the MPEM reads a "rom" chip, incorporated into the metal strip, inside tthe landyard. Thats why, I mentioned to clean it and the chrome dot and ring on post, with an eraser...

Check your grounding. If you have a bad ground, that will cut the engines out very quickly as you describe. Make sure your battery terminals are clean, and you have clean grounding connections to both engines.

Thanks Pincusa, I'll check that out. Now that I know what a landyard cap and post is I feel like an idiot for not figuring that out on my own. Looks like I'm going to be a slow learner, thanks in advance for the patience.
