Hello all,

I just bought my first SeaDoo, a 1998 GTX Limited with only 75 hours, and it seems to run pretty well except for one problem. When I fully depress the throttle, the engine gets to about 5900 RPM and then suddenly drops to about 5100 RPM. It will then climb back to 5900 and repeat. Because of this I can only hit about 55 mph. I'm pretty sure the GTX Limited should be able to perform better. Any ideas on what could be causing the RPM drop?

Thanks a lot,
Kurt

Thanks for the insight. I cleaned out all the hoses I could get to, but I couldn't seem to get to the pressure hose that connects to the crankcase or the checkvalve on that hose. Hopefully the problem is not there.

I will try to get to the RAVE valves in a day or two--I'd like to the replacement gaskets and maybe even the repair kit you mentioned before I get into it.

I have a 99GTX that had a small crack in one of the vacuum lines on the RAVES. Replaced the hoses for less than a dollar and she runs "like a scalded dog."

Might give the hoses a once over just to be sure.

Good idea. So any tips on how to access the pressure hose? Specifically, the section that contains the check valve and connects to the crankcase? I didn't see any way to get to it other than removing the exhaust header (no thanks!).

OK, I'm in the process of cleaning out the RAVE valves.

The inside of the bellows on one of the valves is virtually full of oil, while the other one was relatively clean (just some grease and a little other crud). What does this mean? As far as I can tell after cleaning both of them, neither really appear to have any signs of holes, tears, or perishing. The o-rings look fine too, but I'm replacing all of them along with the gaskets.
