97 speedster wont rev

I just bought a 97 speedster, it fires right up but wont rev above 3500 rpm. Does anybody know what could be causing this?

Put the boat in gear. If it's not in gear, it won't rev over 3500 rpm.

nuetral or limp home emode

Mine will not rev over 3,500 when in nuetral. You way want to check this. make s.ure your gate is comming all the way up and then check the switch and wiring for this. I have also heard something about a limp home emode but not sure what the max rpm is on that
