Hi I have a 1997 Sea-Doo GTX with a 787 motor with a bad mpem I also have a part 1996 Sea-Doo GTX with a good MPem my question is will they inter change

That depends. If it is an earlier production 96 that still has the separate CDI and ECU in the gray electrical box, then probably not. If it is a later production 96 with the integrated MPEM then probably will. Do they look the same?

I wish I could tell a good MPEM from a bad One. LOL

I'd think a 96' and 97' GTX with the same 787 would be very straight forward to interchange parts. Worse case scenario assuming the two are a little different on wiring, it takes a few minutes to unplug everything and swap some harnesses and a MPEM over to the other ski.

I hate MPEMs so much I would never pull one from a running ski to test. I figure whatever is wrong will tear that one up as well then.... 2 broken skis.

The two ski's are nearly identical, swapping MPEMs shouldn't tear anything up, just verify you've got all the proper rated fuses everywhere and try it. Be a risk taker...

I hate em waaaaaaay too much and will never take apart a running ski to fix a broken one. One broken ski is more than enough. :) I actually have 2 broken skis with MPEM or electric issues.

The other ski is not an MPEM but an ECM on a 96 SPI. That ski keeps blowing up the ECM diode after a failure while running. Not sure what happened but the battery was shorted. I posted about it a while back. I have not even begun to work on that one. It will truly be a miserable experience but I have 8 diodes to blow up.
