Hi everyone im new to this site and i just purchased a 97 seadoo gti, i was just going over it and was wondering if they are usually kinda hard to turn over i mean i dont have batt hooked up because of the last owner had done a few things before me i was trying to see if it would turn over by hand it wont, but when i put a socket and turn from the front of the engine it will turn, just kinda hard is there anything i can check for before i take engine out thank you very much alan.

Remove the grey drive cover at rear of engine and hand turn the PTO flywheel with *plugs out, and *wires on the two grounding lugs to prevent any arcing/igniting hull fumes. It its still tuff to turn, remove the jet-pump and turn each separatly.

Bill thanks alot for your advice! please forgive me for trying to understand are you saying if i disconnect the drive shaft to the impeller the engine should spin free then before? so you dont think my engine is bad yet ? i hope not please let me know i really was thinking about pulling it to see about other issues but i sure dont want to thanks again alan.

Bill by the way i did try turning it without the plugs in it and was to hard although i could turn it with a socket in front on the nut i beleive in the magneto cover area thanks alan.

Bill i just took the jet pump out its frozen allright ,my question can those be rebuilt are do i need to get a good used one and if so is there a better place then e-bay?

thanks alan.

Yes, usually. When the vanes get broken that redirect the water flow, is when I start lookin. A sawzall makes easy removal of the wear ring, and you can buy an impeller removal tool, or make your own out of an old driveshaft by heating and bending the end 90*s. Read your manual and also read up in the "HOW-TO" section. Another tool is an Alignment Tool, before inserting your rebuilt jet pump. Non-alignment can send a 720 crankshaft motor to an early grave. Replace any broken motor mounts.
