Hi all, thanks for a great forum!! pretty sure the Mrs isn't so appreciative though as I spend all my spare time on here hehe, anyway, I've got a 96" XP800 with a factory pipe installed and the thing deafens me at full throttle, sounds well, how can I put it harsh, my friend has a 96 gtx800 with the same engine obviously and his isn't half as loud, is this because of the factory pipe? Or can I look for a problem?

Also, could anyone tell me what the top speed should be? If I hold her WOT for a good few seconds she'll get to 30 to props but really doesn't like to go much higher, maybe 45 if I force it

Thinks it's the standard purple one? that's what you use with factory pipe isn't it? ahhhh thought so, what would cause low speed? wear ring and impeller?

Usually when people complain of excess noise it is due to A/M water-boxes, but besides the point... What is your rpm at WOT? It should be over 7k.

Ahhhhh might just be me! not to much to worry about was just wondering, learning the ski really.
havn't been able to tell as the XP hasn't got a tacho, but could do with getting a bolt on one really.

I've just replaced all the fuel lines last weekend, it never misses a beat just thought it should be faster on the clock, it seems pretty quick but then this is my first ski so I've never had anything to compare to.

From idle if you gun the throttle does it miss out at all? Hesitate? Bog? Anything? It should take off like a rocket.

No doesn't miss out, or any of those, it's takes off quick, but I wouldn't say takes off like a rocket. could do with something to compare it too really, as soon as my mates gtx800 is on the water I'll have something to compare to, thanks for the help!! really appreciate it!

Well it should for sure do more than 45 mph. I'm going to guess here and say more than likely wear Ring causing cavitation . You wouldn't know your compression would you?

Yeah compression is 165 psi on both cylinders, I know a fair bit about engines just not jetskis :( I was wondering that, again, all things I need to learn. What sort of clearance round the edge between impeller and wear ring? and I'm not sure what I'm looking for when it comes to impeller condition, it's not mangled, but not perfect, slight markings, dinge on leading edge. All things that would slow it down right?

Or could my speedo be duff? sorry if I'm wrecking your head, really appreciate the help.

These speedos are hit and miss.. and thats giving them more than they deserve. Your clearance to the wear ring should be within the thickness of a dime, at most. Is it cavitating at all? Leaking water in the hull?

Ahhhhh more of a guide than a reference? lol any good computers you know? I've looked and can't seem any. hmmmm I'll check in daylight tomorrow, something's saying its a good 1/4" if my memory serves me correct, I'm not exactly sure I can identify cavitation but I'd say yes, a little. No water leaks at all.

Ok well no water leaks means I am ruling out the carbon seal for now. I would pull the pump and replace the ring. Cheap and easy. Might be better to look at the impeller like that also.

Yeah no leaks from the carbon seal I don't think, well not when still anyway, would that make much difference? Yeah that's what I'm steering towards, thanks for your help :) what am I looking at impeller wise?

Bent leading or trailing edges. Grind and smooth any Knicks. Even better, send it to impros for a like new impeller. Also look at the pump vanes and see if they are ok also. If you are in fact only going 45 you more then likely have another issue, but too early to tell.

Ahhhhh don't say that :( lol I'm in the UK, are they a US firm? What are the pump vanes? I'll try compare
