Hi guys,

I have never owned a Seadoo but do have some Kawasaki Skis. I have the opportunity to get a 96 XP that runs. The exterior is weathered but pretty well intact. It was a fresh water ski. What is the going rate for one of these ? I have always liked the 96 XP and I don't wanna miss a chance but I don't want a money pit either. I do all the work on my skis too BTW. Just looking for a ballpark figure

Thanks,

A lot depends on condition, maintenance, and if a trailer is included.

A good running XP in good cosmetic condition with trailer around me nothing needed is about 1500-1700. I sold a minty one last year for 1750 with almost new trailer.

Lots of regular maintenance items will cost you a few hundred bucks.

-Oem Carb rebuild kits $110
-Fuel lines (if still gray tempo lines) and fuel selector $65
- Rave valve rebuilds $75
- Wear ring $40 if impeller is good
- seat cover $100+ for a good one

Etc, etc. I'd also be sure compression is at or very near 150/150.

not familiar with LA prices, here in Florida about $900-1300 is what i'm used to seeing.

so $1100-1500 would be my guess maximum, especially if you describe it as "weathered" which means cosmetic issues that subtract $2-300 because of the time required to bring it back to "good"

Can the plastic parts be brought back ? I am sure the hull can be compounded but unsure once the plastic gets chalky ?

Thanks,

The hood can be brought back with a heat gun then coat in wipe new. The yellow bar pads are tricky, it I've seen some posts recdnty

I think they are worth a couple hundred more and I would go at the hood with a fine grit sanding sponge instead of a heat gun. If the gauges and power trim do not work I'd price it about where they did.

For the yellow handlebar pad this is what someone posted brought theirs back to looking brand new. I haven't tried it yet but would be at home depot in the paint section.

I appreciate all the responses Guys. I am going to go take a close look at it in the next few days. If I pull the trigger I am going to swap the owner my 2005 Honda Metro Scooter ( bought for daughter and she lost interest). Thing is scooter is like new and Seadoo needs at least a cosmetic restore and lord knows what else so I am hesitant to jump in to fast.
Great Forum many thanks

For the bar pad you can retrofit a newer pad from a 97-99 xp. For the hood a wool buffing pad and cutting compound set on low speed makes it look almost new. I got this xp not running ( needed carbs cleaned ) and a trailer for $800. Sold it a year later for $1700.

Pics added. Looking at it is is not ragged out looking or whipped up just weathered. Looks like the start switch is broken he has tape over the start button hole I think is what it was.... Will try to negotiate a bit more with it.

It may be OK, but it is really neglected. SO... COMPRESSION TEST #1 It must be 140-155 and the two jugs withing a few PSI. <130 is worn out. Take a battery with you if you can. You can jump it from a non-running car if needed. It has to at least crank over when you try to start it. If not, the MPEM (brain) may be shot.(Figure $200). If the start button does not crank it, then you can open the rear electrical box and jump the starter solenoid with a screwdriver. It will not start but it will let you compression test it. Looks like it has the old gray fuel lines. So a carb rebuild, lines, fuel selector are a minimum replace. Figure $200 by the time you have everything to do the job. Then the cleaning, seat cover ($100-200), etc. IF something does not work, you must assume it is bad. So keep that in mind.

Thanks for the reply. Why does the fuel selector neec to be replaced ? I see the lines but I have read a few post about the switch. It is supposed to run so a compression test should be easy. Unsure if I wanna attack this but I have always liked the XP's. And two strokes to boot !!

IT will clean up well but will take some time. IF I was considering buying it, I would offer $800 tops if the compression is good.
