96 XP pump questions

What are the thin washers on the pump where it touches the hull?
I got a 96 xp and the pump was off.
the person said they were going to put a wear ring in it and did but never put it back on.
what do I look for?
also how much end play in the shaft?
Manual says .20 max but both I have feel more than that.

I believe that those washers were originally part of the alignment of the pump. If they were removed and you do not know their original orientation there is a chance that the pump will be misaligned with the rest of the hull

they were just 4 paper thin aluminum washers with a flat spot on one side
all the same thickness,

Yes those are alignment shins and need to go back on exactly as they were installed at the factory.
