I recently removed the motor from my '96 XP. I'm shipping it to Seadoo Engine Shop to have it rebuilt. When it comes back it will be freshly painted. I want to clean up the rest of the parts also. The guy at SES told me to use Rustoleum "Heirloom White" for my front cover and exhaust manifold. My tuned pipe is green. Is that the correct color? I've been told it's supposed to be purple. Either way, what type of paint should be used?

Originally they were purple. At least mine was.

Edit: I used dupli color high heat paint. Wire brushed it really good then used dupli color primer before painting.

Lowes sumptuous purple is almost a 100% match. Look at my clapped thread, details inside.

purple is the "correct" color, although i've made it clear in the past that I can't stand that color.

racer is correct sumptuous purple is almost a 100% match, even for touchup, its hard to tell the difference.

my personal favorite is the hammered finish, but everybody has their own taste.

I'm having trouble trying to find someone to sand blast it. Everyone seems to have a $200 shop minimum. Currently my best option at home is a wire brush that fits onto a drill. Does anyone have a better suggestion for getting the old paint off?

The green looks to have been sprayed on without any sort of primer. Is that OK? I don't want my new paint to flake off like the green paint is currently doing.

The previous owner must have had various spare cans of paint on hand. The manifold is white (same as the motor). This part is green. Everything else is black.

Ship that pipe up, I'll blast it for $25 and you pay the shipping. That's like a 15 minute blast job as long as it's not powder coated.

Go to harbor freight and buy a blast cabinet for $119 and a 40# bag of media will run you another $15 at a real media supplier.

Or check for a powder coating facility, call and ask how much they would charge to just blast it.

Honestly I just give it a scuff and wipe it down with some lacquer thinner and spray away. It holds up well, but I have not done any with the level of corrosion you have on that pipe.

This was just after install, still looks the same today.
