Hello all. I have a spx I have been working on the past few weeks. And I finally got it in the water and am now baffled at my problem.
Does the 96 era seadoos have low amount of thrust out of the hole?
I have little thrust until I get on a plane, then it will take right off. Acts like a worn wear ring or has the feel of a slipping clutch then grabs on and pulls hard when im out of the hole.
I brought it home fully expecting the new wear ring was bad from the carrier bearings, went and bought new bearings and pulled the pump and nothing. Wear ring is like new. No debris, nothing blocking the pump. Driveshaft splines line up and there was no ratcheting anyway which I would suspect if it was slipping.. I seen in the parts microfische the flywheel is called a "clutch-flywheel" and got excited I found the problem, all to read that is misleading name for just a flywheel. No clutch.
I am thinking possibly these older seadoos act like this?
Thanks in advance for your time

No it shouldn’t slip. Does your trim work? It will slip out of the hole if your trim is all the way up. Also check wear ring to impellar clearance.

Trim does not work. I have it fixed almost straight out. Maybe ever so slightly down to keep it somewhat stable at speed.
Wear ring is brand new snug fit...

That only leaves your carbon ring and rideplate. Do u notice any water in the hull after riding?

Yes. Your carbon ring is probably worn. Letting water in and causing cavitation.

A worn carbon ring will suck air from the engine compartment into the pump causing cavitation like you described but Mwat65 was on the right track.
