96 Seadoo SP - Sat for 5 months, Ran fine when parked. I rebuilt the carb (aftermarket kit). It will start sometimes when fully choked and run for a few seconds then die. If i pour premix down the carb it will run forever. I am thinking lack of fuel is the problem. Air leak, Clogged line, Clogged fuel selector? Any tips to help me find the issue? I am going to hook up a funnel to the inet side of the carb and try running it from that to eliminate the carb as the issue. I am also going to remove the return line from carb to see if its pumping correctly. Anything else i should try to find this issue? thanks!

The aftermarket carb kit is your most likely issue. You’re going to have to do the job over again with Mikuni parts...

I disconnected the inlet hose to the carb and put it in a bottle with premixed fuel and it fired right up. Carb is working good even with aftermarket rebuild kit. Replaced the fuel lines, check valves, fuel strainer and fuel selector switch. Running like a champ now, Thanks for the suggestion though.

Just keep an eye on your plugs for a while, and look for any signs of running lean... I’ve tried a couple of aftermarket kits myself when I was just getting into the Sea Doo world, and eventually I got to the point, on the third rebuild, where I thought I had that motor running right. After a few trips out, it started surging again, so I rebuilt once again with OEM parts. It ran 10X smoother transitioning through the throttle positions, and I haven’t had a problem with it since... I wish you luck, but suggest you keep a close eye on things, because these motors tend to seize very quickly when they start running out of fuel...

I'll throw in some new plugs before I take it out again and check it after I ride it for a bit. Anything other then the white tips on the plugs that would indicate it running lean? It will go through about half a tank in a hour of riding it fairly hard.

Also, I use premix fuel but read something about the RV needing oil from the oil pump... Is this true? My oil tank has oil in it but i disconnected the oil pump level thing that moves with the throttle position.

Will it still oil the RV if needed or should i hook the cable back up?

Most here will recommend running the oil injection system as it’s set up from the factory. The system on these skis is super reliable and burns less oil than premix.

Yes, the rotary valve cavity needs to be fed oil. It’s gravity fed from the oil tank, so that needs no be kept in place with oil in it.

So wait, the ski is running ok...but on the trailer or in the water? Running on the trailer is totally deceiving. Running on water is the real test.

Use the stock oil injection system, quite reliable.

Took it out on saturday and ran it for about 4-5 hours. Ran great.
