Hi all,
so I’m new to jet skis, picked up a 96 sp and so far very happy with it. Had to clean carbs and changes fuel lines but all is good with motor.
Today it’s making what I would call slipping on take off. Compared to a snow machine it’s like the clutch is slipping. Motor is strong and smooth, just not pushing full amount of water of rear. After jetting up to speed it runs great.
What should I look for ?

Thanks

Sounds like cavitation. Check your impeller and intake for any debris. If free and clear check the impeller for damage, if free and clear, check to make sure your pump is properly torqued to the ski.

You need to check your wear ring in the pump. It is designed to get damaged and replaced instead of the pump or impeller. Pretty common and causes exactly what you are describing.

Thank you, thank you. It was as simple as a few weeds stuck around the intake.
