New to PWC's....traded some labor for a 96 GTX in need of help, for my daughter.

So as she's patiently (well, for her) looking over my shoulder as I replaced every inch of fuel line, and am now re-assembling the carbs with new kits.

I ran into an issue trying to get the check valve grommet in place. I don't have the "special tool" mentioned in the instructions, but my 2mm hex key has a 2mm ball on it, which promptly pushed through both grommets in the kit. I used oil, tried applying pressure evenly to the grommet and rod....

At this point, I've decided I don't need to replace any more check valves, 'cause I'm not spending $50 on two new kits for 2 grommets! That said, I have two more shots at getting the one I need to do in place.

My daughter won't let me leave the dock until it's running, so any tips would be appreciated.

been there, done that....as you mentioned, lube the crap out of it, and try fold'n the "arrow" to get it started...

Well, with the last remaining intact grommet, I was able to get a disc back in place, by using an eyeglass screwdriver under the disk, to push the point through.

Bolted everything together, Cranked and cranked and cranked, and she fired!

I'm sure these things are way out of spec as I haven't built a popoff tester and simply relied on trying to maintain the cable settings, but it ran out to about 7500 RPM and idles fairly well. Will be searching for the norms on this model to see how far off I am on performance.

Keeping my fingers crossed.....

Thanks,
