My stater (sp?) in my 96 GSX is shot. I got an estimate to replace and fix (labor) for $600. Does this sound like a fair price? They have a used stater they can put in at lower price then new one as well. I don't know much as far as what it takes labor wise to fix this. Just just wondering if its a major labor issue.

My guages are also not working properly. My fuel guage is not working, and I have a constant Low Fuel Warning Light as well as the Low Fuel text showing no matter how much fuel I have in tank. Is this an easy fix or what?

I also had someone tell me that my engine is rattling a bit. I assume this isn't good??

Thanks for help.

$600.00 is the price I was quoted for a new stator in my 97 spx.
I have been running it as is and charge the battery after running it. Seems to work ok. I am about to install a solar panel to keep the battery charged while sitting on the ski lift.

Wazzzzzzzzzit STATOR.......or.......STARTER..........?????????????????

Use a wood block, or long screwdriver, or mechanic's stethoscope to amplify &
determine the source of rattle.

If Stator, loosen front mount and put a wood block under the engine to support it to open the magnito cover. The proceedure & pics are in your Shop Manual.

Broken Bendix teeth & bearings can interfere as well.

Read the How-to section on checking the gauge funtion, bafel funtion. Bottom of
bafel may have come off, allowing fuel float to escape, or float is failed to float.

Your problems are DIY. Hard part is haveing enough Beer on hand to finish reading the Shop Manual! Harder to direct your buddie to:cheers: turn the wrench!

It was the STATOR.

Thanks for info Bills. I did have a seadoo clinic work on my ski. My "stator" was litterally in pieces. I had them do the work. It did cost me 600 for everything.
Mechanic said ski is in ok running shape. But did mention the "rattling" within engine. I didn't ask him what that was. I am assuming its wear/tear within.

I still have to look into the guage issue.
