1996 gsx runs with plug wires off no fuel and revs like crazy??????? wtf?
just got 2 weeks ago with no engine. been building this thing for two weeks.
every thing is new, fuel lines, oil lines, clean tanks, rebuilt carbs. hard start, then starts rung ok for like 5 seconds then goes to the moon. shut fuel off pull plug wires and its still screaming????????????

gonna rip carbs back off asap. as far as engine, i bought one that has never been apart. low hours and and spot less.

Hey onebadcav,
You are sucking air, probably around the base of the carbs. You probably have a bad gasket seal.
Pull the carbs and check the gaskets...use RTV to get it sealed if you have to.
Next time that happens just pull the choke and it will shut off.

If you get it to idle, spray a little WD-40 around the base of the carbs. If the RPMs increase then you know that you have an air leak.

This same thing happend to my 99' GSX Lmt. a couple of times. Now its almost stuck, turns over without plugs but feals like one cylndr is binding or maybe a crank bearing? This happend as I was cleaning it out from overturning in the bay. All of the sudden it just whent to max RPM for a few seconds.

i just got mine going good tonight. lots of cranking with no plugs and wd-40 should get you going. it takes forever and just as you are ready to say screw it, it will work. dont quit now, you can get it going again.

My machine is doing exactly the same thing. Runs really high revs out of water, and dies when I give it throttle in the water. I have done everything there is to do with fuel, except seal the base of the carbs. I just reused the old gaskets. Bought some RTV tonight and just finished putting it back together. Will let you know the results on the weekend. Thanks for the suggestion. I was totally out of ideas.
