95 SP Overheating

Hi. I just bought a 1995 SP (587 engine). I've had it a sum total of 28 hours. I've never owned or operated a PWC before so I may be over-looking soemthing obvious...

After about 20 minutes into my first ride, the overheating alarm started. At first I could barely hear it even at idle. Over the 45 minutes it increased in pitch until it was screaming at me! The engine did not feel overly hot nor did the exhaust system. When I let the engine cool, the alarm abated.

At all times I had water streaming from both ports (CSI) in the back. The port from the engine's head seemed to have half the pressure as that from the exhaust side.

All hoses are connected correctly (per the shop manual) and appear to all be in excellent condition. The tuned pipe shows absolutely no signs of rust or cracks.

Today I used compressed air and blew into the CSI ports. Some water came out of the return line but no material that would imply a blockage. The air flowed smoothely and did not lead me to believe that there was anything impeding the flow.

I am planning on replacing temperature sensor. Besides this does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the overheating?

I can touch my engine at all times with out it scolding me. I believe you shold be able to do this allso. it may be very hot some times but not to the point that it would badly burn you. I hope this helps. :cheers:

Does anyone one know what the flow rates out of the csi ports should be while at idle?

Also, is there a way to know if the oil injection system is functioning properly?

Turned out to be the sensor.
