Hey guys. I have 2 94 GTX's that I recently rebuilt the carbs and replaced those old grey fuel lines. I also replaced the oil injection lines that were broken up. While it was down, I checked to make sure the injection pumps were working and lo and behold while turning the pump gear with a drill I could see the oil creeping up the lines. All seemed good but when I put it all back together and fired it up, I just seem to get air bubbles coming out of the pump. Little or no movement of the oil. So I opened up the bleeder and got good air free oil flow. Anyone have an idea what could be going on? Thanks guys

throw some oil in the inline filter/gas, and with motor at IDLE, hold the oil pump arm, wide open. once it starts "squirt'n", you'll hear the motor load up/smoke.

GTX oil injection pump

Thanks Timmyboy but the oil line to the pump is full of oil. I tried fully opening the feeder lever while it was idleing but just got air bubbling up the carb lines. Sounds like the pump is air locked?? or at least not fully primed although it worked while I had it off the engine. Whatcha think?

Try opening the bleeder (or removing it) until oil flows out. This will ensure the pump is full of oil.
If you still getting air bubbles then air is is getting sucked into the line somewhere, like a loose connection or a hole in the line.

Also might put some injector oil in the fuel tank to prevent any damage until all the air has left the oil lines.

Great idea Jesse. Perhaps by then the air will have passed and I wont have to worry about trashing the pistons.

timmyboy,
I understood what you were saying, but I could tell from Gman's response that wasn't fully understood. Wasn't trying step on anyone's toes.

Oil injection pump

Most of what I have read is that these injection pumps either work or not. Little middle ground. I had the skis on the lake for about an hour on a 40:1 mix and I just do not see any oil flow in the injection tubes. Bubbling air more than anything. My question is what kind of job is it to rebuild the pump, mostly gaskets I would guess, or does it make more sense just to convert it to premix? I would prefer to not premix but a new pump is out of the question due to $$. Even used pumps are a little pricey. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Oil pumps generally do not fail. They usually are very reliable. I would try this now that you have a 40:1 mix in the tank. Hook the hose up and start it on the trailer. While at idle reach down and open the oil linkage to WOT, all the while letting it idle. Hold it there for about 2 to 3 minutes and see if the lines start to free themselves with air bubbles. Your ski should start to smoke...good sign that it is getting oil. Turn it off and pull the plugs and clean them. Should be good to go after that.

only rebuild part I can think of, is the white gear get'n stripped, which is located inside the cover. Other than that, go to Ace, get some small clear line, and replace the oil lines. You can re-use the clamps. Make sure when you "throttle", that the pump arm moves from down position, to/toward, the front.

Good advice guys. The oil injection lines are new and clear so I can see whats going on. I would have thought an hour on the lake would have cleared those lines. I have also tried to fully open the pump while at idle but not for 2 or 3 mins. Will try that asap. By the way, the seadoowarehouse.com lists a gasket kit for the 657's oil inj pump but not sure what it includes. Thanks again
