so long story short, im putting a bombardier 587 in a john boat... it came out of a 95 i think gts...i cant recall. i have the engine installed etc. etc. went to test start it today and no crank no spark.... the starter solenoid doesnt click or anything. the battery is new and fully charged. also i can jump the solenoid and still no spark... the engine ran before installation. i might add that i stupidly cut the 4 wires going into the stator/coil area . i spliced them back together with heat shrink crimps... did i mess something up big time or am i missing something... not looking to be berated , just looking for some help. thanks in advance for any help

No one is going to berate you. We have all made silly mistakes. I think it's a pretty cool idea to have it on your jonboat!

I'd start with the easy stuff first.

-check your battery cables. They tend to rot from the inside out and can look like they are perfectly fine and not be.

-many times on this forum we have seen people with brand new batteries that are DOA. Do you have another battery to try?

It also sounds like you did a lot of moving things around to get motor swapped onto something it was never meant to be in. Have you done a full check over of the wiring to make sure everything go reconnected correctly inside the box?

You also might want to consider ordering a new wire that goes to magneto cover and installing it.

Are you getting any kind of indication that the power is getting to the system when you connect the battery? If you push the start button repeatedly do you get any lights or beeps?

I have checked with 2 different batteries so far . No clicks or anything when the start button is pushed. The 2 fuses on the mpem are still intact . I can jump the starter solenoid with a screw driver and it cranks over so it is getting power . The battery cables are good . Really the only thing electrical that got tampered with was me cutting those magneto wires

You did not mention if you transferred things like the start button, safety lanyard post and buzzer to your boat. When you put the key fob on the safety lanyard post you should probably get 2 beeps. If not, then other beep patterns could indicate a problem. Without the lanyard post, the MPEM would probably light up the indicators and gauges when the start button is pressed (if you have those gauges) but would probably not crank the engine without the key fob on the safety lanyard post. There are just 2 wires going to the safety lanyard post (Black and Black/Yellow). Probably if you just short those wires together the MPEM will interpret that as the key fob inserted on the safety lanyard post, and crank the engine when the Start button is pressed.

Transferred everything from the ski. Pulled the motor and all electronics as one. The ski had no gauges . Pretty much all I’ve done is made my own tunnel and motor mounts out of aluminum. I haven’t modified any of the electrical components in any way

Gents, thanks for the input. I , the narrow minded dimwit, paid no attention when reinstalling the box and wires etc... and wait for it... hooked the starter wire to the battery and batter wire to starter... swapped them... motor fires right up ... now you may all berate for I deserve it

Don’t feel bad I’ve done worse
I launched my new to me Waverunner last summer started it up and it died in the middle of the river I couldn’t get it to start back for anything so I dove over and towed back to the launch and put it back on the trailer only to realize I had the fuel selector in the off position guess it had just enough fuel in the lines to get me away from the launch
Exhausted and humilated afterwards

Lol that's a priceless mistake we have all made in some capacity or another.

Glad you got things figured out. I'd love to see a video of that thing

Still a huge work in progress . Here’s the engine and exhaust mounted . Might try to get videos and put them on YouTube. Who knows
