okay, so i'm about to reinstall the drivetrain of my 1990 sp, however, when i installed it, i accidentally ripped off the boot that covers the entrance of the driveshaft through the hull. when i reinstall it, should i just use the locktite silicon that i use on the jet pump assembly in order to keep it water tight? i'm not exactly sure how it's supposed to go on to create a perfect seal. because when i reattach it now, it can twist with just my hand. i'm just wondering if the silicon will ruin the manueverability of the drive shaft or something.

thanks

Replace the boot. It should be clamped to the hull drive snout to imobilize
the boot that holds the carrier bearing. The shaft goes thru the inside race
and then gets grease pumped into the bearing needles to keep water from
entering the hull. Grease that zerk fitting and the PTO zerk after every 5-6
outings. An ungreased, will wear the drive shaft splines, needles bearings
will rust and sieze up and twist & ruin your boot, and possibly rip the fiberglass
hull snout off. Use Great Stuff sealant on the pump water pipes around & where
the water pipes protrude thu into hull. Its a black silicone that seals great.
