I'm looking into either rebuilding my 720 or getting one already built.

A few questions if anyone can help.

What's the difference between a standard engine and a premium engine from SBT? Apart from price and the extra warranty on the premium engine.

Also, looking at crankshafts and the two options I can see are either a rebuilt standard crankshaft or an aftermarket hotrod unit.
Are the aftermarket units as good as standard? The price seems to be more for a rebuilt exchange unit than it is for a brand new aftermarket hotrod one.

There's is no difference in the engines, you're just paying up front for your repair with the premium. You do get a quart of break in oil, an installation gasket set, and a soft core calendar for your pleasure.

You can get an sbt crank, a hot rods, or an OEM reman crank. There are also other guys who build cranks out there too.

Looking at the prices on cranks, the best deals seem to be the hotrod. I can get a brand new unit shipped over the Uk inc import taxes etc for £360 where as a remanufactured one within the uk will cost me £450 plus my old crank. And theres also a WSM crank available around £400.

Unsure what brand pistons ill go for yet, Wiseco would be my 1st choice but price depending I may go for a pro-x or WSM.

Anyone used any of the above or got any advice they can offer?

If you go Wiseco, make sure you properly warm up your machine before running. Like, 15 minutes or so of idle or very low revs to be safe. I have a pair in my SkiDoo 600, and they don't fully warm up until about 10 minutes of idle, and I give the extra 5 minutes to be extra careful.

The best parts and probably the easiest to get for the money in the UK are OEm Seadoo. I know if you can find some mail order dealers they sometimes give big discounts like 20% on cranks. Might be worth looking into.

SBT used chinese bearings you have to decide if that is good or bad.

Hot Rods had a bad batch at one time and got a bad reputation but I have not used them.

OEM will always be the best quality parts but most expensive. I only use OEM in my skis.

I have been told by some of the best builders that the cold seizure with Wiseco pistons is just a myth and they are fine. No personal experience with them.
WSM are good cheap pistons and I have them in my 720.
I didn't care for the look of the SBT pistons but no personal experience with them in my skis.
Best in my opinion are the Pro-X or OEM.

Thanks for that reply, some really good info there.

What do you find the quality like on the SBT pistons? Would you use them again?

I've always used hotrod cranks and wiseco pistons in my mx bikes and never had any trouble, after hearing a few stories about the pistons and now the china bearings with hotrod cranks it's make me wonder if it's worth avoiding them.
I know if I get my crank reconditioned then for all I know the bearings and seals could be Chinese or some cheap quality and there's the situation about how good the balancing would be.

I'd much prefer oem seadoo parts but as you said their the most expensive.
