2006 4-TEC SC engine... how much oil?

How much engine oil does a dry 4-TEC engine hold? Every drop of oil was removed from the engine, the case split open, more oil poured out... you get the idea?

I've so far put 5 quarts into mine, and it just now seems to have stabilized on the dipstick at the full mark.

After 3 quarts of oil and the 1st 20 minute run on the water, it went from full on the dipstick to down to the very tip of the stick! Yikes! It wasn't burning oil (the exhaust was clear no smoking) and it doesn't appear to be leaking oil inside the hull (the bilge is clean and what little water drains out of the bilge plugs is just lake water). The dealership said it takes 3 quarts to change the oil... but I've now put a total of 5 quarts into this engine! Does changing the oil in 1 of these engines only replace 3 quarts worth perhaps?

Anyways I'm perplexed and hope somebody can explain where the oil went in there... I figure it's all still gotta be in the engine somewhere.

Thanks.

Ok I just read that the engine is "full" when the oil level is in the middle of the bend on the dip stick... cwap! I have it up at the top of the bend, so maybe it didn't need that last 1/3 quart I put in there Saturday morning (I haven't started the engine since "topping" it off with that last 1/3 quart yesterday morning; last outting was Friday evening and it was too dark to check the oil level once I got it back on the trailer). So no damage done at least yet, since I haven't started it!

Guess I'll get a suction pump and pull 1/2 quart back out before running the engine again.

Why can't they put a full mark line on that darned dip-stick and label it "Full ->" like just about ever other engine maker in the world does? I've never seen an engine dip-stick like these SeaDoo ones before in my life! Grrrrr!

Yeah...keeping the oil lvl between the bends...on a warmed up and sitting level ski is key to safe max rpm and speed.

I'm still learning... these SeaDoo's could use a little improving as far as owner care goes though. Just figuring out if it's got the correct oil level or not is far too confusing! And I even read the Owner's Manual cover to cover and still got it wrong (filling it to the top of the bend in the stick!).

Still, it sure runs nice and the hole-shot is almost on par with my jetboat! I think I need to change the impeller wear-ring over the winter though, as it seems to be turning a few too many rpm's at 35mph (4680rpm's +/- 100 rpm's?). I've not taken it over 40 mph yet, and have only run it on the lake for like 45 minutes at an outting (sun sets awefully fast this time of year in the evenings... but on the plus side we're getting almost summertime weather here in SouthEast Texas again this week so conditions are still favorable for more outtings with the Doo!).
