2005 Bombardier RXT fuel system ???

Hello,

I have a 2005 Bombardier RXT with 87 hours on her. She had sat for 2 years; dad's just gotten too old to keep up with maintenance and I haven't been local for years longer.

I am having what I believe is a fuel flow problem. Did general maintenance in yard for first launch and all seemed OK. I was stupid. Completely forgot how old fuel was. Got out on water, all good under 6K rpm, but when I gunned it (8K rpm +) she immediately sputtered and quit. MAINT came up on display, red warning light flickered, then ski wouldn't restart. Had to get tow back to ramp.

Spent some time on YouTube and feel I need to service a few things. 1- replace both in tank fuel filters, 2- consider replacing fuel pump, 3- consider pulling fuel rail and cleaning injectors.

Do you agree?
Other considerations?

I'm also curious to your thoughts on adding an inline fuel filter outside the tank, maybe just before the fuel rail. An added easily visible indicator of what's getting past the internal filters. Thoughts? Worth doing or just another impediment to fuel flow?

Ski ran solid at launch idle, and strong initially out in the bay. Once I punched it, she bogged down and went right out/quit. Nothing we did for hours (siphoned & added new gas), checked all connections, etc ... worked to get her back to being able to start. Also some weird, varying beep alarms at failed attempts to restart. Interestingly enough, after sitting 2 days in water waiting for family to get out and help with tow back to town/ramp, she idled fine. I was able to fresh water flush her just fine in yard for several minutes without issue. Also in yard, MAINT flashed 5x then cleared.

Apologies for the long post, but I'm hoping the details will help you possibly help me.

Last ? ... does the computer need to be cleared/reset following the MAINT message? Could that be adding complications to the ski getting back to a healthy starting?

THANK YOU for the feedback and help.

Safe times!

MAINT message needs to be cleared from the computer but it won't affect performance.

Beep alarm after failed attempt to restart might be low voltage on the battery.

Your 3 steps regarding the fuel system are a great start. An inline filter probably wouldn't hurt, but also shouldn't be necessary if the in-tank filter is clean.
