I am having problems with my 04 gti le rfi idling at 900-1100 then fouling a plug and going dead. it will start up but i have to stay on the throttle to get to open water. at wot it runs great ,60 mph w/me and i weigh 225. do you think my problem is fuel delivery at idle or is it my plugs? I am using ngk br8es11 that are factory gapped .044. I have had this problem for several years. I use non-ethanol gas and sta-bil. the problem is not getting any worse but some times on a cold start w/ski in water it will idle 1400-1600 for about 10-15 seconds then drops back to 900-1100rpms. help

i would definately put the correct plug in it -- br8es and the correct plug gap is .020 == also when in water, AFTER ITS WARMED UP, there is an allen head screw at t/body, (you dont even have to take air box off), then adjust idle to 1500 rpm plus or minus 100 -- mine is set like at 1700, that puts it out the water, when i flush it, like at 2400- 2500rpms- but, i flush it like 30-40 seconds or so

I have been using br8es gapped at .020 and they were also fouling that is why I went with the br8es11. the factory gap on the br8es is .032 which is a big difference to .020. as far as the allen head screw goes there is not one on the 04 model.

I had the same problem with my 99 GTX RFI. It would run good wide open but sputter and miss during throttle. It would idle for a few seconds then reduce Rpm's until it died. I would find 1 plug fouled. It turned out to be a bad injector bleeding off. I installed 2 new injectors and the problem was fixed.

like i told you when you pm'd me before you started this thread, you will have to set tps with a scan tool and set value into mpem, along with the idle screw -- you do have a tamper proof screw, that is nec to adjust for normal wear, this allows a proper value for closed throttle and minumum air flow, remember, this is like a car with multi port fuel injection with a t./body, except it has no auto idle speed motor, also no adaptive memory, that is why, if you set it up at like 1700 rpms in the water, you will be ok....
