Installed a Y16 series might max gel cell and my machine gave me problems over and over. Maintenance light blinking, no beeps. Limp mode idle only. Came home and checked rectifier and sure enough over voltage. 17-18 at 5k rpm. So I was like dam I need a rectifier. Since I have 2 identical machines just the other has a new lead acid battery. I swapped rectifiers and same problem, other machine was fine. So I swap batteries and sure enough now my wife’s machine has the maintenance light and charging at 18v. Swapped batteries again, problem back to my machine. Battery is a nice fell cell with 13.0v no load, 12.86 with DESS key on.

I am returning and orders a SLA instead. No idea why a gel is so different but it def doesn’t work with the MPEM charging system

Has anyone experienced this before?

This sounds strange, almost as if you have two things going on at the same time.
I have been running gel batteries in all my DI skis for years with zero problems.
Have you tried another brand gel battery?

I have another coming as a replacement but the battery is definitely the problem. I have not tried another brand. The battery seems stout and my charger which has a gel cell option charged it to 100%. Maybe it’s defective but it measures voltage and current drop perfectly. What DI are you using it in

I have 4 DI skis and all of them have O’Reilly’s auto parts batteries as I have had good luck with them. I get at least 4 years before replacing.
I also have cut off switches installed when not in use and I remove the batteries when winterizing, fully charge them and never leave them on trickle charge.

Can you share the specs on the cut off switch? I am looking to install one.

When we had a DI ski it was also giving tons of problems and error messages. Turns out my fancy agm Deka battery from NAPA was the culprit. Got a bargain basement walmart Lead acid battery and it works perfect to this day. Also put in a cutout switch as well which we shut off when we were done with the ski for the day

Yup I have no idea why the ski needs a basic lead acid. I ordered a SLA so hopefully that works. Gel no good.
