I have an 03 GTX Supercharged. 195 hours. Very well maintained. Always on battery tender. I tried to start it for the first time this season to get it ready for a ride tomorrow. Wouldn't start. When I first put the key in the normal beep sounded and gauges reacted. Then a series of 2 to 3 beeps sounded and nothing from the pump or motor when I hit the start button. Removed key and retried. Nothing. Battery voltage checked. 12-13v. Tried key again, no beep and just the word SEA DOO came up on screen with no gauge reaction. Hooked up battery charger at 10A charge setting. Gauges reacted and West came up on screen but no beep and no motor action. You could hear a deep consistent clicking noise from what I am assuming is the starter or fuel pump solenoid that increased or decreased in rythum as I changed the charger amps from 2a to 10a. I could not get a consistent reaction from it whether charger was hooked up or not. At one point the word "key" came up on screen signifying wrong key or security system trouble. Then the next time the word west came up on screen with gauge reaction but no beep. Then the just the words sea doo with no gauge reaction. Very random. When I put it away for the season everything was working properly. Could this be as simple as a battery problem even though the battery is always on the tender and during cold season is inside and it's showing 12-13v with no charger on it. It does drop to 8-9v once I put the key in. I don't know if thats normal or not. Any help would be much appreciated. I've finally got a break from work and would like to hit the lake at least once while its warm.

Just figured out how to pull codes from computer. It's showing code P-1681 Communication problem - instrument cluster message missing
. Any ideas?

OK here's what happened. Originally battery was bad. It showed 12.8v with no load on it and then as soon as I connected the lanyard the voltage dropped to 9.7v and that was before pressing the start button. List of things that happened with low voltage: P1681 code, "key" would flash on the display screen periodically, when lanyard was connected sometimes gauges would move sometimes not, sometimes just the word sea doo would come up on screen. Replaced battery then all was good. Kind of.

Took it out to Tahoe. Started great. Ran great. Got to Emerald Bay and relaxed on the beach for a couple hours. Went to leave and wouldn't start. No codes popped up. Battery voltage was good. Starter solenoid clicking and fuel pump was pressurizing. Display screen was normal. Beeps were normal. It just wouldn't start. Long story short I got it home the next day and tested the solenoid. 12.8v on battery side of solenoid and .03v on starter side of solenoid when the start button was pressed. Placed a jumper between battery and starter terminals on solenoid and the engine turned over. Replaced solenoid and runs like a champ now.

Hopefully this helps someone else out. I'm thinking the low battery voltage took its toll on the starter solenoid or it was just a coincidence. It looked like the solenoid was original. Brown in color. New one is black.
