Took out my ski about a week ago. There was a hose that was not attached on the back end that ran off the exhaust. After riding at about 5000 RPM for 5 minutes, tne over heat signal occured and the ski was immediatly shut down. We towed it in and took the ski out of the water right away, I noticed that there was a considerable amount of water in the hull. The ski did take water into the motor but was flushed out two days later by pulling the plgs and cranking the motor. Prior to flushing it, I put marvel mystery oil in the cylinders to avoid lock up and additional lubrication. The water that we were in was a mix of salt but at a very low content. As of today, it appears that all the water is out of the motor but the ski still won't start. I've tried spraying a small amout of starting fluid and still it will not start. The engine turns over, has spark and seems to be getting fuel. It tried to fire one or two times out of the 20 times I tried. I've used at least three sets of fresh plugs and still no luuck. One thing I noticed was a fuel leak that was happening out of the back of the machine near the impeller? At this point, I'm wondering what to do next....Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You may not have spun long enough to get liquid out of lower case. 15 sec, then
wait 30 sec, repete, repete, repete. so starter don't get hot. (plugs out and on
wires safety ground lugs). Use pre-mix fuel and dribble a little in holes the put plugs
in , some down carbs & re-try. You did check for spark eh?

dump fuel bowl at water separator filter, grease square 0-ring. Check that bowl for
cracked. It could suck air. Water molecules are larger than gas and can clog a carb.
If above don't work, re-clean them. Bill

iv just had similar sort of problem taking weeks to get started i found i had a faulty fuel regulator the diaphragm inside was letting fuel to loose pressure but theres a simple test to see if you diaphragm is leaking pull either your air compressor oulet pipe off or the small pipe that goes to your rave soliniod once you got one end off give you ski a crank and if you see fuel your regulator is shot hope that helps

Thanks for the replies...I bought a compression guage today and both cylinders are about 135 psi which I was releaved to find that out! Magical- I'm really not tracking what you are saying to do since I'm not to familar with the components of the ski. The ski doesn't have carbs so I am not familar with the direct injection system. Does anyone think it has something to do with the computer? I had a fuel injection lawn mower years back and it was the worst 11k I ever spent. I had nothing but problems with it. Any other trouble shooting techniques will be great to hear. I am supposed to be trailering both of these to NC so I could use them on vacation this week. Once again, thanks for the input.

ya lots o ppl just love the d.i system!:ack: did you check all your fuses? can you hear the pump come on when you put the lanyard on the post? you are getting spark right? how do the plugs look and what kind you using?

The ski is getting spark and the fuel pump is working. All the fuses are good and the plugs are the ones recommended from the dealer. I'm almost thinking that it's getting too much fuel if thats even possible? I was told that there still might be water in the cylinders. I can't imagine that at this point since I turned it over at least 50 times with no plugs. When I crank it with no plugs, there is alot of fuel coming out of the plug holes. I'm assuming because it's injected and the computer wouldn't know the difference with or without plugs. I'm fed up at this point and it looks like I'll be dropping it off at the dealer this week.

sorry to hear that. if comp. is good, u have fuel, and spark, i would think bad mpem or something. i would shoot some starting fluid to it. sounds like there should be no reason why the thing isnt starting. ive seen em up to the bars in water, pulled the plugs and shoot water 12ft high. put the plugs in with a lil squirt of starting fluid, and bust right off. that should be ur case too. is that fuel coming outta the plug holes or water mixed w/fuel/oil? water does get in the crank cases, the only real way to get it out is to get it running, then idle around for about 30-45min to get the temp up. heat will evaporate the water.

well i was on salt water riding all day today for like about 6 hours and in the way back to the marine the same thing happen to me the hose got loose from the back and water started started to get inside almost about to sinck in the water, i pull it out and got all the water out of it too but still wont start it dose like if it is going to start but it dosent. how did u fix ur problem what should i do.

could be alot of things really, d.i really needs to be plugged in to a computer to see what is up. if it is acting like it will start on fluid but when the fluid is gone and its time for fuel, she dies, i would think an injector issue or some fuel issue. salt water is not my thing, i hear it does very bad things to ski's in the long run, but i would look there. really easy to pull off the rail and diagnose. also, make sure you get the water out, it will settle in the crankcase and push it up eventually. might pm karl or snipe??
