RESTO 2002 GTI LE won’t stop

2002 GTI LE 717 won’t stop when stop button and/or dess key is pulled. Any ideas?

Does it start without the DESS key in place?? Are you having issues starting the ski? I had a1997 GTI that would give me bit of trouble starting on occasion. One time it didn't stop. Troubleshooting revealed corrosion on the big plug going into the electronic box. the computer could not see the button being pushed. I cleaned that up and then it worked just fine. Good Luck !!

It starts just doesn’t shut off, will not start without the dess key.

Sounds like voltage is bypassing the system, like it finds another path.

Weak ground problem somewhere, trace all the grounds going in the MPEM. Double check the plug connecting the DESS post. I'd test the start/stop button also for good continuity, double check that plug where it connects. Bust out the digital multi meter and start probing. Could be a MPEM issue, but not likely since it's starting.
