i just bought a 01 utopia 185 and the throttle is hard to engage. its really bad when trying to go into reverse

I just went through this problem and fixed it.

First, disconnect the shift cable at the reverse bucket. It's a cotter pin/washer on the right-hand side. Then try moving the bucket up and down manually. It should flop up and down easily. If it takes effort, that is the problem. See my recent post regarding how I fixed it. It involves removing the pivot bolts and bushings, and sanding out the hole under the bushings. It shifts like butter now.

Can you be a little more specific?

"Throttle is hard to engage"... does that mean the throttle lever is hard to move?

"Really bad when trying to go into reverse"... does that mean the FNR lever is hard to move, or that the throttle lever is harder to move when the FNR lever is in reverse, or...?

We'll try to help but need more specific info. Perhaps describing the actions/motions you take and what happens with each one.

Hey Wa. The 01 Utopia only has one lever which when pushed forward puts you in forward and when pulled back puts you in reverse. This lever is also the throttle lever. There is not a separate f/n/r lever and throttle lever.

Thanks for the correction. You're right, I just looked at the Seadoo drawings and it's a one-lever system. Didn't realize that.
