Hey so maybe a stupid question but a little back story have had this 2001 Rx sitting in my yard for about 6 years probably hasn't seen water in 7-8 years if I had to guess guy I worked with had nowhere to put it so brought it to my yard forgot about finally got paperwork for it and trying to decide if it's a Rx di or just a Rx is the di easily recognizable by the fuel rail I have seen in pictures is so I do not have that so assuming just a plain carbureted Rx hooked a hose up to it and vacuumed out some mice nest she runs sounds good smokes quite a bit hoping that will clear up after being used and some new plugs anything to look out for with these problem areas hopefully will make it to water sat to test her out

The RX DI decals are obvious on hull. BIg fuel rail on top of head. Cant miss it. For the amount of time sitting, I hope you dont have issues with the fuel system. 99% of the time, the ski will need fuel lines and selector valve changed. Also carbs cleaned out with new diaphragms and needles/seats. Old gas in tank another obvious.

Getting one to run is the easy part. Getting it running well is a whole nother story.

If it does not run like a bat out of hell, DONT keep riding. If if noses over, stalls, dies, or bangs out, stop and get off the water. It will be a very expensive mistake otherwise.

If you have to choke or feather the throttle to get running at speed, get off the water. Dont ride it.

It is a lot of work to go thru that ski to make right, but is a lot more work and expense replacing the motor when you didint have to.

Sounds like a fun time haha yea I was hoping to make it through the rest of the season and then start tearing it down over the winter replace lines and such get a rebuild kit for carb and stuff. Im in upstate NY I mean on the trailer runs fine crack the throttle no hesitation I know things will be different once u get a load on and in the water but fingers crossed it will be good. I'm not a stranger to working on things been working on sleds and ATVs forever so having an awful time finding oil for it though everything I see I'm stores is tcw 3 guess will have to order some

Please do not recommend oil that is not rated or specified for the seadoo engines. The Seadoo 951/947 engines require a full synthetic API-TC rated oil.

The correct oil is easy to find. Mystic, Amsoil and Seadoo are all easy to source.

So got a compression tester from harbor freight think that was a mistake after watching some YouTube videos showing its in accuracy but that read 90 psi each cylinder. Still took it out and tester had to be wrong she was a screamer had it up to 55 which I'm guessing is probably almost too speed stalled out a couple times but I have to do a deep clean on the carbs still and replace those grey fuel lines I have been reading about but ran well overall and smoke seemed to clear up. Is it normal to take on water being first time on it I took a couple good wakes over the front lid covering the whole thing I plan on adding a bilge pump soon just curious if it's normal to take on water

If you have carb issues please stop running the ski or you will destroy the engine from running lean.

Yes the Harbor Freight gauges are junk and will read really low.

Not running lean it has not run on water in about 7-8 years id guess. It just stalled out a couple times when I was idleing it ran great otherwise great power i just plan to to pull it apart this winter and give the carbs a nice cleaning and new gaskets and stuff new fuel lines just to freshen everything up

The RX doesnt need a bilge pump. If water is coming in, you need to chase it down. Check to see if there are two small tubes sticking down in the pump nozzle. If one or both are missing, there is one place you have a problem.

Did the motor stall as in die? And it started right back up? If it stalled and died, then fuel is not being delivered correctly. I would advise you remove both the rave assemblies and take a flashlight down the slot. Look at both pistons and see if there is any type of vertical scoring. You should be able to rotate the pto flywheel easily by hand if spark plugs are removed.

If ski has no fuel issues it should run over 60 on gps. If it has any fuel issues, it wont run long.

There is two small honey comb looking things guess best way I can describe what the bottom looks like on them they are on both sides of the driveshaft that has tubes running back I tried feeling around in there to see where they run but couldn't really it wasn't a ton of water in the hull and I took a couple big wakes over the front ok the ski and it stalled out and would start back up yea I was going off the spedo on the ski so don't know about gps will have to try gps next time but did not have an issue when I was in the throttle ran and sounded wonderful to me I don't see any leaks from the cooling system so I have to get it to a not busy launch to let it float so I can look inside and see if I can see where waters if any is coming in didn't get much time as a sheriff pulled up as I was putting in asking if I had my boaters saftey certificate and he let me test it out told him was just trying ride it after getting it running and everything
