I can't decide which one I should get. The 2001 has 91.3 hours, is very clean and runs fine, fuel gauge not working properly, speedometer doesn't work, comes with a trailer that needs some work. Price is $1,800. I know that I'll have to change fuel lines and do some other maintenance. The 2006 GTX SC has 12 hours on it and it looks brand new. It comes with a Karavan trailer and cover. Asking price is $5799. I looked up the price on NADA and it says low retail $4,080 and average retail $4,600. I have never owned a PWC, is there a particular reason why the seller should be asking more than retail?

on the 2006. If you buy it, it will need to have the s/c washers upgraded. If you do it yourself 350-400. dealer around 750. Search these forums about the s/c issues. You will see what i mean.

yes, they came from the factory with ceramic clutch washers for the s/c. for the model year 2008-present they changed those to metal due to all the failures. the ceramic washers have failed with as little as 10 hrs on the craft. They may have been changed already but i doubt it unless the owner has proof. Search the threads on this forum. there are tons of threads about the s/c failures on pre2008 models.

sorry i lied somewhat. forgot to mention:stupid: To upgrade the whole s/c to the 2008 specs its 350-400 for parts. But yes you could change just the washers for under 100 bucks i believe. they are listed in the RIVA catalogue.

Thanks for your help. It sounds like the 2006 Seadoo will require more maintenance over the long run. I might be better off getting the 2001, bring it up to par and enjoy it for a couple of seasons, then sell it and get a newer one with more horsepower without a S/C. What do you think?

whatever you prefer. i have a 1999 gtx limited on carbs and a 2008 rxt 215 s/c which i just bought brand new as a leftover. i love the rxt but the gtx is more fun to throw around and beat on. but the rxt has the muscle and speed. its a toss-up. gtx goes 55mph rxt goes about 70mph. so go figure.

The GTX has the 4-tec engine in it and closed loop cooling. It's going to be much more reliable and have more parts available in the long run...just as jwalts said make sure you take care of that supercharger. Rebuilding at 12 hours isn't necessary, but I wouldn't put it in the water without at least getting the washers.

Once you get close to 100 hours, you'll want to rebuild however. BRP recommends them being rebuilt ever 100 hours.

I decided on the 2001 GTX RFI. I'm getting it for $1700 with a Shorelandr trailer. I could not pass up a great deal and don't have to rebuild the super charger every 100 hours. It has 91.3 hours on it. It doesn't have gray fuel lines. She was using Quicksilver Oil which I'm going to change to XPS. What else should I be looking for?
