Just rebuilt my buddies carbs on his 2001 GTX 951. I used genuine Mikuni kits. I removed the exhaust to replace all fuel and oil lines. When I reinstalled the carbs I wanted To check and see if they worked prior to reinstalling everythig else. The carbs would not pump fuel. Do I need the exhaust installed and all other vacuum lines to get the fuel pump to work? the returns, fuel in and pulse are all good.

The fuel pump works off of pressure in the crank case. So if the pipe wasn’t there it should not matter. When you say it doesn’t pump what do you mean? I assume you are not getting fuel to the carbs. Did you replace the fuel pump check valve discs? They can be a pain but omit you punctured the rubber plugs that hold them in you will have a problem. Did you build the fuel pump exactly as the manual Shows ? The order of the diaphragms is key

This was a friends ski, it was bogging and lacking power do we decided to clean and rebuild the carbs. The fuel filter screens were almost plugged with green stuff from the fuel lines. So I ordered mikuni kits for the carbs and replaced all fuel lines and oil lines. Yes I did replace the pump check valves and pretty sure that I installed gaskets per the diagram. The carbs just aren’t getting fuel. I will remove them again tomorrow and Double check them.

I would put some fuel in a container and a clear fuel line to the carbs. Then connect a nice clean line for the pulse line. I'd suck and blow which is only small puffs to actuate the fuel pump. You can watch the fuel come through the line and into the carbs. No need to pull it all the way in. When you stop the fuel should not bleed back really fast.

If you did everthing correctly the fuel should flow to the carbs. It just takes a bit of time at full choke. You can always draw the fuel to the carbs before connecting the fuel feed line. You may have an air leak in the fuel system.

Generally it takes about (2-3) 5 second bursts from the starter to get fuel to the carbs and the ski to fire.

BEWARE of the Runaway. 951's love to do this on start up. I will not allow a 951 to run more than a couple seconds in the driveway. They all go to the water for testing. Make sure your choke is connected and working before you try to start the ski. That's how you stop the runaway. Good Luck !

I was able to get the fuel flowin. Just took a bit. Now the oil cable broke and the throttle doesn’t return on its own. Was planning on removing the oil injection so wondering if I can put a single throttle cable instead of the two into one cable?
