Just had a new engine put in my 2000 Seadoo GTX RFI. The engine in it is also an RFI engine but it is from 2005 not 2000. Now I take my Sea-Doo out on the water and it doesn’t want to stay running it just cuts out on me after it running for about five minutes. I have to start it back up and it gets harder to start every time it shuts off. I basically have to hold the throttle down all the way to get it to start so I can get it back to the loading dock to get it out of the water. I think this is a fuel pump or fuel filter issue I’m not sure I was hoping somebody in here have some advice for me? When I put my key on it beeps twice like it supposed to so I know it’s not an electrical issue. Can somebody help me with this please? Thank you

Don't worry,,,you will get help,,,miki the moderator is the guru out here plus others,,,they will help you.,sounds fuel/pump related,,,have you checked the fuel pressure?,,,Is the motor identical,,,There are sensors on that unit,,,TPS,,,might need recalibrating.

I’m replacing the fuel pump and filter today. How do I check the the fuel pressure? And what’s the TPS? and do I need a Seadoo scanner to recalibrate that?

Motor is identical, just a 2005 with 18 hrs on it so almost brand new.

Don't go changing parts without verifying they are bad. It will get expensive and you won't solve the problem. First off check your battery voltage. Check your charging system make sure your rectifier is working. I doubt you have a fuel pressure issue unless it is a filter problem. Good Luck

I would pull the pump and change the filters, then take it for a spin.
With no maintenance light more than likely it is a fuel delivery issue.

Ok I got a new fuel pump and cleaned filters. Took her out on the lake today. She started up went about 500 feet ( ran great for that 500ft) and then shut off and died. Went to restart got 2 beeps when I put the key back on and tried to start but she didn’t want to start back up. Battery actually went completely dead after trying to start it back up on the water 3x. Got a tow back into the dock and put the Seadoo back on the trailer and pulled her out of the water. Put the key back on got the 2 beeps and started her up to try and clear the water out( if any which there wasn’t) and she started right up‍♀️. Rev’d it once and pulled the key off. Put the key back on and it beeped twice and click then nothing. I think it needs a new battery again. What size and kind of battery do I need for my Seadoo? (Remember I have a 2000 Seadoo gtx rfi but put a 2005 engine in it) not sure if I need a bigger battery or if the battery that is already in there is to small? I’m getting frustrated with this machine ready to just give up. Please if any one can help me that would be awesome! And I really appreciate all the help I’ve gotten so far. Thanks everyone.

I think the battery size should be 19AH with 325 cranking amps. Most any auto parts store can tell you. I would go with an AGM gel battery.

What kind of pump did you install? Most aftermarket pumps draw too much amperage and will drain your battery.

I use the Yuasa YTX20HL-BS from Amazon for $80. Maintenance free high cranking amps and last about 5 years using a battery tender.

Not sure if it’s solved yet cause it still shit off but I couldn’t restart cause the battery died. I know when I was in the water it kept cranking but never started. Then my battery died. Got it out of the water and it started right up. Kinda feels like she’ll run out of the water but don’t want to stay running in the water. The fuel filters were very black and dirty so I know it contributed to it not running before. I replaced the fuel pump also cause it had the original one in there from when it was first made. I didn’t want to have to go in there again just to replace the fuel pump so I just did it to knock it off my list of things that probably needed to be done anyway.

Ok so I bought a new battery and took it to the lake today. She started and ran good for a few mins then shut off again. I had my son test it for me and I took a video of what happened. This is really frustrating me now. I’ve put a new engine in it, a new fuel pump and filter, and now a battery. I’m stumped on why it won’t stay running and acts like it’s not getting fuel. Anyone have any ideas to help me please? Well it won’t let me post the video‍♀️

Sounds stupid but new spark plugs can work wonders. Mind correct gapping, it is narrow for the SD. I'd change them no matter what just to exclude them.
Also, your case doesnt necessarily sound like something I failed on...swapping the RAVE solenoid plug with one of the injector plugs. They interchange and are just about in the same place, easy to misplace but the easiest fix if it is the issue. It sounds like you may want to look at the starter relay if it isnt cranking. Check all ground connections too.

start it at the dock in the water when it dies pull the plugs .are they wet or dry ? should help in which direction to go to much gas or no gas On the starting issue check all cable connections . it seem like when turning over fine then it just clicks once its a cable connection, which could be also a low voltage symptom in the fuel injection, injector. just throwing that out there. It used to be all you needed was gas and spark

Can’t find anyone to work on it either I’m worried cause I need to get it winterized properly too soon
