I'm replacing the reverse cable on my 1998 speedster. I got it loose at both ends just fine, but the dang cable runs under the engine and I'm having a hell of a time getting it to thread through there. Any advice? Does it even need to go under the engine at all?

If anyone should stumble upon this later. You need about 1.5 feet of coat hanger wire. Pull the old cable forward (so the end sticking through the transom goes into the engine compartment). Tape one end of the hanger wire to the back end of the old cable your are removing. Tape the other end of the hangar wire to the front end of the cable you are installing. Use electrical tape and lay it on thick so that it will not come un-taped. Then you just have to pull it through. I tried several other directions and methods, but it turns out you need the hanger wire because there's not enough flexibility if you just tape the two cables together.

Thanks for that. I'm about to do this on our '99 Challenger. I did the throttles cables last month & of course, now the reverse cable fails! Any other insights?

Nope, that's pretty much it. I forgot how much time I spent getting that bugger in there until this post gave me flash backs. Good luck. Should be a similar set-up in the 1999 Challenger if I remember correctly.
