1998 Seadoo GSX limited muffler/exhaust removal

I have a 1998 Seadoo GSX limited. It has an oil leak somewhere on the bottom end. I am trying to remove the muffler on top to get to a point where I can see more of the engine compartment and maybe find the leak. I have taken out all the bolts holding the muffler in but CANNOT get to the hex nut underneath to remove it. The Seadoo manual drawing looks like it is a 10 metric nut, but not for certain. I simply cannot get a wrench or anything on it. Any suggestions? The jetski runs but great but I need to fix the oil leak. Help!!!

There's a special tool for that fitting. I also have read if you remove the carbs, you can fit a box wrench on it and do it that way.

You don't need to remove the nut, just loosen it. That corner of the exhaust pipe is not a full circle that slips over the bolt, but rather a "C" shaped joint that fits in and holds it in place.

The bolt is attached to the manifold, and the nut snugs the corner of the exhaust to the manifold.

A picture of the 951 for reference. You see the bolt sticking up off the exhaust manifold, that's what you're trying to get to.

Just remove the carbs. The special tool is a joke and still doesn't work. With the carbs off it couldn't be easier.

When you get it off replace the small 3/32" Tygon oil injection lines and rebuild the carbs if they haven't been done recently.

Also it is typically just the oil tank seam and grommets that leak oil on a 951.

I had this problem, had to remove the exhaust as the last owner used sealant instead of a gasket. But couldn't get to that nut so I bought one of these Screenshot_20180712-232915.png

No need to remove the carb
