Hey all. New here. Getting back into the Seadoo world. Been searching for a while and finally picked up a couple of machines last weekend each with their own issues...

First is this 98 Limited. Thing runs great. Starts a LITTLE hard at first but after that fires right up... When I attach the DESS key I get no beeps... Information center is dead.... I am VERY knowledgeable in electronics.. I found a print online and found I have no power on the purple and black wires in connector 1 at the MPEM module... ALL fuses are good and I replaced them anyhow... I checked while cranking and while the machine was running.... I ran a new ground to the black wire (made assumption that is ground as my print doesn't call it out...) this produced no change... Here is where it gets fun... Ran a line to the purple from the battery and as SOON as I touch it to the battery I got lots of smoke from the rear of the machine... Appeared to come from the box containing the starter solenoid.... The machine still fires right up and runs but no display and no VTS... I did pull the cover and the motor for the VTS is unhooked... I haven't pulled that yet to see if it's locked up or what...

Now I am guessing everyones response will be to replace the MPEM but I am looking for creative solutions of other things to check before I drop that kind of cash on a new MPEM.... I appreciate any thoughts and input.!!

As a side note I did use the search bar and most of the threads I found didn't give much info and were locked to new replies so I am starting my own.

Also to add when I bought this machine the speed sensor was broken off and the wires were touching. I separated and sealed them individually with shrink tube and tape... Is there a more detailed print I can buy that tells me the signal in each wire and not just the color??
