1998 GS water in the engine

Hey everybody, I'm new to the forum and am trying to get my Seadoo going. It has sat for over 2 years, but I picked it up for free.

I got it to turn over with some starter fluid, and runs for a bit, but when I hooked the hose on to it and put some fresh gas in it, water was pouring out from inside the engine (when I removed a spark plug). This doesn't look good, does anyone have an idea what it might be?

pull the plugs, and hit start button. Need to get the water out, then spray some wd-40 in holes at let sit/dry for a bit, then install plugs and take gander at it. Dont worry about hook'n water to it, you need to get it run'n for now. Also, when put'n water to it, you need to have motor run'n then turn water on, then turn water off, then motor off...in that sequence, or else, what happen to you, will happen again.:cheers:
 
Thanks, there was definitely lots of water in there, she's soaking in WD-40 as we speak, I'll try to get it going this afternoon
 
yep sounds like the water was on before the ski . run it for a bit with out water to dry it out some , 1-2 minutes at idle should not overheat it , give it a few good whaps on the throttle while chokeing abit to flush some extra water out . have you cleaned your carbs and change your fuel lines yet ? better do it . we had a boat capsize out at sea and was missing for 2 weeks upside down whe they found it we pulled the plugs , spun it , and she fired right up !
 
Unlike most boats, never run water without engine running as there is no exhaust pressure to push water out of exhaust system. You will find that warning in the user guide which you should read.

Also after sitting up that long you should rebuild carbs. You also probably have the grey Tempo fuel lines which are known to deteriorate and plug up carbs and fuel selector valve with gunk. Replace all fuel lines and valve or it will run lean and destroy pistons.
 
Hey thanks guys, it looks like I'll have to do the carbs and fuel lines for sure. I got a lot of water out of it and let it sit for the afternoon. I got it going with the starter fluid so I know it'll go, the spark looks good. Is it easy to get at the carbs? I think this might be a weekend job perhaps.
