1997 Seadoo GTI PTO/Flywheel stripped

Hey guys I am ney to Seadoo Forums.
I have a 1997 GTI and i just rebuilt the top end and cleaned carb and was ready to go on the lake. I got out there on the lake and the ski cranked no problem just would not got anywhere when put in forward/reverse, the ski would not do anything. You could rev it high and nothing would happen. Do i need to replace my pto and my flywheel? The flywheel will not screw on the pto, it just slides on the pto/shaft and you try to turn it and it wont screw on just sits there freely. Could someone please help me. Thanks

I'm not familiar with these skis but does it have a key way on the crankshaft? It should also have a retaining bolt too.

Someone else will need to verify for this particular model, but at least on the older skis I have the pto just screws onto the crankshaft end and the torque from driving the jet pump keeps it tight. There are splines at various points along the drive line that may be the problem, but the acid test seems to be what you have already done: if the pto just slips on and off the crankshaft you have stripped threads either on the PTO (if you are lucky) or on the crankshaft (less lucky).

Good luck and sorry to possibly be the bearer of bad news.

Anyway, welcome to the best SeaDoo forum. Someone here will jump in and verify my story or tell me I am full of it.
