I have a 97 GSX with the 787 engine. Last night I was reviewing the shop manual as saw that it says when installing the battery, put the small ground wire under the main negative wire. I looked and I don't have the small ground wire and couldn't find anywhere it should be attached. Where should it attach and will it hurt anything running without it?

small wire

my 96 gsx has the big ground cable that goes to the engine and the small wire goes into the electrical box next to the battery. it is joined with 4-5 other black wires the bolt the the armature of the ignition coil.
i'd say if it's not there it would be a good idea to add it as it'll give the coil a better ground and less likely to over task some other wire that is making things work. it's sad when people bring machines in with burnt wiring harnesses because of a bad ground. enjoy.

I see on the wiring diagram 4 black wires attached to the base of the ignition coil. It doesn't show a wire going to the battery. I opened my rear box and there were the 4 black wires attached to the coil. I didn't see a loose wire or any way for another wire to exit the box. How does your wire get into the box?

small ground

mine has a plug connecting to the middle top of the box top. the wire goes into the plug along with a bundle from else where.
1) coil primary
2) battery
3) vts module
4) solenoid
5) coil armature

good luck
