Welcome Dustin.

There is a ton of information on this forum's search engine that will identify the correct spark plug type and gap. As a premium member, you can obtain the downloadable shop manuals to help with more advanced and detailed specs on repairs.

Since we do not know what "slightly modified" means, it would help for you to describe the mods since every change to the stock configuration affects other parts of the ski. (pipe usually means tweaking carbs).

Speaking of which, have you checked the low speed adjuster (or has someone been messing with it?) for the correct number of turns out? More on this effect can be found on Snipe's Guide:http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?t=4151

I don't think running a br7 is bad for it. The guy I bought my '97 gsx with the same engine you have had always ran br7es. I now run br8es. Just seems like the right thing to do!
