1996 seadoo spi

Hello, my storage compartment lid is shut and i cant open it the push handle broke, how do i get it opened? Also its a 1996 and and it does not have many hours on it but when i started it this year it seems to be smoking a lot, bad gas? A little background my brother purchased it off of someone and it sat in my yard for years he never used it, I bought it off him and I have not used it often either, its clean I doubt it has a 70 hours on it. since I used it it has been stored indoors in the winter and I never did ever winterize it. The gas gauge does not work is that a hard fix ? Back to the smoking I never noticed it smoke as bad as its doing now, but both of the wave runners I have are smoking this spi more so than the 1998 gsx. does not sound as good either like maybee an louder like an exhaust leak, and suggestions would be appreciated.

Just a little seeping from the inner crank seals. Pretty common on the older Seadoo’s.
