Just picked up this 96 HX with the 717 in it. Previous owner said it quit running on him last time he used it so he took it to a shop. The shop rebuilt the top end but then told him the bottom end was bad, so he decided to sell it. I put a scope in the cylinders and confirmed brand new pistons @ .25 are in there. Figured what the heck, added a battery and both cylinders are at 150psi, but no spark. I found one of the 4 wires coming out of the trigger coil to be pushed back in the plug and not making connection. Fixed that and now I have spark. However, there are two hoses that are currently disconnected and not sure why.
Here's where I need some help; the oil reservoir was been plugged off on the bottom port (top port still goes to oil filter and then oil pump) for some reason. Additionally, the larger oil hose that comes off the block right by the oil pump is not currently connected. No idea why its like this, except maybe they removed the engine to rebuild the top end and just didnt hook the hose back up????? The oil pump is still on the engine so they did not do a delete. I am assuming the large oil hose goes to the oil reservoir where its currently capped off, but hoping someone can confirm this?? The hose is longer then the distance needed so it doesnt quite make sense but hoping someone knows.
