Hey guys, I replaced the pistons/rings in my ski and then the starter would engage but not turn over. I replaced the starter and now it will engage but not turn over 3 or 4 times and then on the 5th time, it will turn over 5 or 6 times but will not start. I took each of the plugs out one at a time and it turned over easier but not consistently. Is it possible I have a weak solenoid?

Hey Murph,

The solenoid is pretty easy to test by jumping the 2 terminals with a screwdriver or other tool. My preferred method would be a short piece of 10 guage wire held with pliers. Have DESS in. Cut insulation off ends of wire and jump the solenoid terminals by touching ends of wire to both terminals. Be prepared for some sparks.

Also, you can get a ~$4 circuit tester from harbor freight. Ground the clamp to ski and touch to the solenoid terminal and see if it lights up when you hit start button. 1 solenoid terminal will be powered before hitting start. Other will be powered only if solenoid is working

Did the ski turn over ok before replacing piston and rings?
Other stuff, make sure your battery is reading good voltage~12.6 or more. Doesn't hurt to polish up the electrical connections to starter. And on battery
