Gotcha. Just making sure we aren’t missing anything... You can try to choke it and see what it does. If it picks up, you’re lean. If it does when you choke it, you were rich... In the meantime, I would go through your fuel system looking for air leaks. The two most common places to get them are the fuel selector and the water separator, so I would run a line directly from the reserve nipple on the fuel tank to the carb inlet. If your problem goes away, you need to replace the o ring in the separator and install a new selector switch. If the problem doesn’t go away, you need to rebuild the carb with a GENUINE Mikuni carb kit and a new needle and seat.
