need some advice on a seadoo speedster boats? I'm looking into a 1994 with the twin 657x engines. boat itself is about 8.5 out of a 10 scale.. Heres what he told me, he bought it this winter and replaced one of the engines (took out a aftermarket SBT engine and replaced it with an OEM seadoo engine) one engine runs great, the one he replaced runs good until it gets to operating temperature then stumbles and runs like crap. and when the boat is off gas continues to flow into engine. Sounds like carb float stuck to me, but would a stuck float cause it to stumble when it gets to operating temp? He ran it around Easter to test it out and there has been gas sitting in the one engine since, would that have any bad effects to the engine? is there anything else to look for? how reliable are these boats, this would be my first one

2 weeks ago i bought a 95 Speedster with the Twin 657X motors. First boat i ever owned. I can tell you from my experience that 2 motors mean double the maintenance , and half the room to work on them in the boat. The recommended synthetic 2 cycle oil is about $25-30 a gallon for aftermarket brands , and anywhere from $40-59 a gallon for the Bombardier/Seadoo brand and if math serves me right , uses a quart every 10 gallons of fuel.It has a 27 gallon fuel tank , and the Speedster is THIRSTY.

On positive notes , its a fast boat for its size. Its easy to pull with a small truck , and doesnt weigh much if you need to wheel it around by hand.
The best part about the boat so far is the wealth of experience Ive been able to tap right here on this forum. If I had it to do all over again , Id go with a larger single engine boat , and newer in design.
My 2 cents. Jim.

I as well have a 95 speedster, It takes a lot of maitenence but... When it runs right it is an extremely agile boat with a great hole shot. Its loud and gulps gas but thats okay for what it puts out. Also it being older is nice because the engines dont have all of that computer crap covering them. But two engines also mean double the maitenence so watch out for that. You can pretty much count on 2-3 things going wrong with the boat each year, but thats the nature of high perfomance 2- stroke engines. But they are amazing boats when they work.
