1994 Seadoo Bombardier XP rotax 2 seat

Had not used the watercraft for 2 years. Started right up. Put it in the water and idled out to lake. Motor would rev fine but nothing faster than idle speed. then started to take on water. Engine compartment was full of water and would have sunk except for an air pocket in nose. towed back to dock and loaded on trailer. water drained but cannot start. Where would the water be coming in. Am I toast with this one?

Well the possibilities are:
1) the seal around the drive shaft (carbon ring seal, bellows, etc.) has dried out, split, separated - ??? check those
2) have any of the vinyl lines to the rear of the ski come undone, brittle, check every line
3) you did close the hull bilge/drain plug(s) right?
4) crack i the hull (doubtful) - why not used for 2 years

All is not lost.....there is a procedure to drain, dry out and get the ski back right....I sank mine nose up and it runs today.

The performance problem is MOST LIKELY fuel / carbs BTW.....25 year old machines are not waking up after a 2 year nap ready to rumble right out of the gate!

thanks for the reply. plug was in. actually started right up and rpm's were fine, just no propulsion and filled up with water in engine cavity then went down. I'll check all that you mentioned and let you know. craft is about 3 hours away, so won't be right away. Really surprised that water came in the compartment. not much time to react. What a sight for people on the shore. No crack or hole in the hull.

Side tangent....I have a 2017 Spark 2.....I replaced the entire hull after a mishap. I had two (2) vinyl tubes passing through the hull itself, both supposed to be pressure fit with the seal being that the vinyl hose OD is bigger than the hull hole OD...well, the new hull holes were pretty much the same size as the vinyl tubes and water was able to get past the tubes and into the hull (unbeknownst to me)....thankfully, the water coming in was slow enough that overnight she only went down maybe 6" inches when I caught her and pulled her out in time. I didn't open the drain plug since I wanted to see where the water was coming out...I thought maybe I missed a hull hole with sealant perhaps....on dry land I could see water dripping out of the hull past the vinyl tube (the hull drain, lowest point in the hull)....I was able to goober in a lot of silicone sealant from the inside to seal the tubes...she is floating today no problems (has been in water for 2 weeks now with no problems).

If water was entering your hull that fast...you have a seal failure for sure...gotta be the carbon seal/bellows....I can't see anything else that would allow that much water in that fast....I'm sure it was very exciting to say the least! Good luck with it....I know the 3 hour tour....mine are 3 hours away as well....

The other possibility is a major leak in the cooling system dumping water into the hull and since you could not move forward fast enough (idling only), the ski was taking on water and the siphons could not get rid of it. Put the ski on a hose and see if water comes pouring out of the engine/exhaust somewhere (preferably if you can get her started again...but you need to get all the water OUT of the engine first...pull the plugs, follow the submerged engine procedure....download the service manual
