I have a 1992 seadoo xp and it just quit working the other day on the lake. We replaced the battery before it happened. The solenoid was makng a buzzing noise. My boyfriend replaced it with a ford solenoid and now there is a clicking noise coming from it when we try and start it. I should add that my boyfriend hooked a trickle charger to the old battery while it was still connected in the machine. I can't take it into the shop because they are so backed up ...we just bought this and want to ride!

what happened when it quit? were you riding and all the sudden it died or did you shut it off then it started doing this...either way first things first pull the spark plugs out and try to turn the shaft on the back of the engine by hand

We came back to shore and shut it off by pulling the lanyard out ......hopped back on it ..tried to turn over once ..then nothing ...sorry if I sound like an idiot for asking this but how do I turn it over by hand? Do I turn it clockwise or counter clockwise? In doing so should the ski fire up if the engine isn't seized?

You dont sound like an idiot..we are here to answer questions and if you dont ask then how can we answer them right !!! ...to turn the engine over by hand just remove the spark plugs and go to the back of the motor and you will see a plastic cover that covers up a shaft that goes to the rear pump...take the cover off its probubly going to be held on by a big hose clamp so just loosen it and pull it off.. after it is off then you will see the shaft grab it and try to turn it...it dosent matter what way you turn it just try to get it to turn..if it turnes dont try to start it yet let figure out whats going on.... does your starter engage at all when you hit the start button

by the way where in michigan are you

I'm from white lake. We live on long lake ....we just bought this ski and an 1989 Yamaha wave runner....they are both down ...but I'm more amped go get the sea doo running first.....I've only ever worked on dirt bikes quads and trucks.... I have a basic knowledge for things .....when we were trying to start it the only noise I heard was coming from the solenoid....nothing from the starter ....I'm going outside to fiddle with stuff now ..

ok let me know what you find when you try to turn the shaft.....if the shaft turnes then take the electrical box apart and first of all get the solenoid out of there that he put on there...put the old one back on becasue it is the right one you cant just throw parst at it that dont go on it.... if the shaft turnes and u put the old solenoid on then try to take a screwdriver and lay it across both of the posts on the solenoid with the battery hooked up and it will arc,,if it arcs the starter should engage

The shaft is turning.....I'm working on dealing with the old solenoid ...he cut the plug do dad thing off in order to put the other one on....its looks exactly the same except for the plug thing on the side ...

ok if the shaft is turning then your engine is fine.....for the most part at least u know that the engine is not seized... once you get the aftermarket solenoid off then we can continue but my gut tells me that your starter is either bad or the solenoid is bad... but with that funky solenoid on there we cant go anywhere... when you hit the start button now with this solenoid on does it make a click sound

It makes a buzzing sound ....I put the old one back on .....I'm not even sure if everything in the wire box is hooked up correctly it looks like a rats nest .....where exactly is the starter? So I can see if there is a noise coming from it?

starter is on the left side of the engine on the bottom (exhaust side).....did you try to cross the 2 posts on the solenoid and see if the starter engages
